I’m photographing weddings for free in exchange for a place to sleep, food to eat, and a story to tell.

My name is Vincent Po, and I’m a photographer and writer.

Getting to spend time with people, whether friends or strangers, has always been why I love photography. Photoshoots are an incredible way to connect with others, and the best ones are less about finding great lighting or backdrops and more about having genuine conversations.

Portrait of a Young Couple is a project to document couples’ perspectives on life and love across the world by photographing their weddings for free in exchange for basic needs and permission to tell their stories.

Few events are as important to a couple as their wedding, and how they plan the day says a lot about who they are and what they value. Every decision, from whom they invite to what music they play, reveals part of their unique worldview, and choosing someone to document it all is a huge act of trust.

Flowers wilt and cake gets eaten, but photos become the cornerstone of memory, to be looked at years, decades, or even generations later. By offering to photograph a couple’s wedding for free, something which usually costs thousands of dollars, I hope to gain a natural view into the lives of those different from myself, and to paint a portrait of a young couple that inspires us to become more open and curious towards the people around us.
